What we can do with this material?

Introduction to Quantities: Introduce quantities and their names, specifically how the units, tens, hundreds, and thousands are represented in the decimal system.

Introduction to Symbols: Acquaint the child with the written symbols for the quantities/categories of the decimal system, Introduce the numerical symbols for 1-9, 10-90, 100-900, and 1000-9000, with different colors representing different place values. Each place value consists of 9 units.

Formation of Numbers: Make the child familiar with the different categories of numbers, especially with regard to reading the symbols. To give the child the wording of large numbers.

Changing: Make the child aware that 10 units can be changed into a ten-bar, ten ten-bars can be changed into a hundred square, and ten hundred squares can be changed into a thousand cube. 

Using Beads for Decimal Operations: Introduce the methods for each type of operation. Addition means "combining the quantities together"; subtraction means "taking away a part from a quantity"; multiplication means "taking the same number multiple times and combining them"; and division means "dividing equally among everyone." This is a small group activity that emphasizes the process.
